1.4.1 Overview and targeted group

From Geostandards

The NEN Norm Committee Geo-information 351 240 focuses on the formal side of geostandards, and mainly on the preparations for ISO and CEN/TC 287 meetings.

Geonovum focuses on management and the application of geostandards. This takes place at the interface between the formal geostandards and the agreements, that exceed the scale of the organisation through which the exchange of geo-information in the Netherlands comes very well into being. Geonovum operates from the standpoint of the public sector. Trade and industry also play an important role, united in Geobusiness Nederland. In order to integrate 'geo' better in electronic government (e-government) Geonovum pays a lot of attention to fine-tuning of geostandards with e-government.

The target groups for Dutch geostandards are:

  • policy makers responsible for creating a framework for a geo-information infrastructure (SDI);
  • experts in ICT and e-government who are familiar with geo-information and SDI-concepts;
  • developers and writers of standards;
  • software developers;
  • architects;
  • organisations that want to implement standards and specifications and integrate them with other organisations.

In 1.4 Dutch Standardisation the NEN Norm Committee, Geonovum and e-government will be discussed. This is worked out in greater detail in the Framework of Geostandards, see 1.6.1 Framework of Geostandards.
