Goals
Geonovum makes geo-information from the public sector widely accessible and develops and manages the necessary standards. The goals of Geonovum are:
- developing, standardising and innovating the geo-information infrastructure;
- developing and distributing knowledge in the field of geo-information infrastructure;
- advancing the accessibility of the geo-information infrastructure for boards, institutions and services in the Netherlands and the European Union.
Geonovum represents the public sector and cooperates with knowledge institutions, universities and businesses.
Geonovum and Standards
Geonovum works with the whole variety of geostandards. In comparison with the NEN Norm Committee which focuses mainly on the formal side, Geonovum focuses on the implementation of geostandards. Because of this separation of tasks, the NEN Norm Committee and Geonovum are complementary. This is illustrated in the basis model Geo-information (NEN3610). Geonovum has developed this Standard with the geo working field and manages it as well. The NEN Norm Committee takes care of the formal procedure for publication of a new version of NEN3610.
Cooperation with Geobusiness Nederland
Geonovum and Geobusiness Nederland have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, to advance the application of geostandards, for example by using training programs and test beds. Their mutual activities contribute to the business of the companies.
