1.6 Framework of Geostandards
From 2000 onwards, the planning and development of geo-information infrastructures has become a worldwide activity. A great number of countries are working on it and the European Union is working on European geo-information infrastructure as well (INSPIRE). Standards play a crucial role in the realisation of this infrastructure. The challenge is to pick the right set of standards out of the wide variety of standards. For the Netherlands, a selection from the framework of geostandards of geo-information has been made. International connections, mature standards and wide usage, were important selection criteria. The standards mentioned in the framework make it possible to build a geo-information infrastructure that is compatible with the developments in Europe.
