The element ‘Summary’ indicates the summary of the content of the dataset. In this element a more extensive description of the dataset can be given. Examples:

  1. The New Map of The Netherlands is a complete overview of new developments.
  2. The Digital Geological Model of the Netherlands (the DGM) is a land coverage model of the layers of the earth’s subsurface which maps out the spatial course of the quaternary and late Tertiary lithostratigraphic units. These units cover approximately the upper thousand metres of the subsurface. The model is a framework for further applications within, for example, hydrology, geo-mechanics, geochemy and mining.
  3. The NWB Highways is a digital geographical file of nearly all the Dutch roads. Listed are all the roads that are managed by road managers, such as the government, provinces, municipalities and water authorities, as long as they have a street name or number. Separate walking or cycling paths and unpaved roads are also listed in the NWB National Highways, if they have a street name. If a road has separate lanes, as is mainly the case for National Highways, then these are listed as separate road sections. In total, NWB Highways covers about 145.000 kilometres of digitalised road sections (number+/-825000). The NWB National Highways is updated four times a year.
  4. The Environmental Planning Office (the PBL) produces maps on a yearly basis which illustrate the large-scale concentration and deposition levels of diverse air pollutant materials in the Netherlands for which European policy exists. These maps (with the resolution 1 x 1 km) are based upon a combination of model calculations and measurements intended to give a large scale image of the air quality in the Netherlands, for both years gone by and for those to come.
