‘Legal restrictions to accessibility’ is the metadata element containing the accessibility requirements which ensure that privacy or intellectual property are guaranteed and that all the other special constraints related to the obtaining of metadata or data are adhered to as well.


It is mandatory to adopt at least one of the three elements Legal restrictions to accessibility, Other constraints, Security restrictions. When there are no constraints this should be indicated in the element ‘Other constraints’. Geonovum recommends the use of Geo shared based on creative commons, to indicate the licence terms. The geo shared licence is included in the element other constraints.

Possible values are;

copyright copyright Exclusive right to publication, production, or selling of rights on a literary, theatre, musical or artistic work, or on the use of a commercial print or label, or granted by law for a specific period of time to an author, composer, artist or distributor.
patent patent The Government has granted an exclusive right to make, sell or use an invention, or to publish it under licence.
patent pending patentPending Produced or sold information waiting for a patent.
trademark trademark A name, symbol or other object which identifies a product, that is officially registered and the use of which is reserved, by law, to the owner or manufacturer.
license license Formal permission to do something.
intellectual propertyrights intellectualPropertyRights The right to a financial benefit and control of the distribution of a non tactile property that is the result of creativity.
restricted restricted Restriction to distribution and use.
other restrictions otherRestrictions Restrictions not included in list.
