According to Article 5(4) of the Directive, the INSPIRE Implementing Rules shall take account of relevant, existing international standards and user requirements. In the context of metadata for spatial data and spatial data services, the standard ISO 15836 (Dublin Core) has been identified as important.

Homever, the guidelines that manifest the mapping between the INSPIRE metadata elements and Dublin Core has not been approved yet, thus a lot of discussion on this issue already have taken place.

The status of the disccussion has been summarized and publicted in the following report "State of progress in the development of guidelines to express elements of the INSPIRE metadata implementing rules using ISO 15836". It can be downloaded via the INSPIRE web site (Get ISO 15836 status report).

As soon as the Dublin Core guidelines have been approved within INPSIRE this page will be updated.
