6. Combining your own service with the services of your neighbours in GAIA or uDig
Now you know how you can make map layers available via geoserver WMS or WFS. Your computer can now communicate with all the computers in the training room.
1) Try to show your neighbour’s service in GAIA.
In the WUR the following services are available:
http://d0111947:8080/geoserver/wms
http://d0111948:8080/geoserver/wms
http://d0111950:8080/geoserver/wms
http://d0111951:8080/geoserver/wms
http://d0111952:8080/geoserver/wms
http://d0111953:8080/geoserver/wms
http://d0111954:8080/geoserver/wms
http://d0111955:8080/geoserver/wms
http://d0111956:8080/geoserver/wms
http://d0111957:8080/geoserver/wms
Select 1 or 2 services to add from the list above.
The GIS program uDig (in step 3 already installed) offers quite a few more options than the GAIA software that has been used to date. Particularly with regard to showing a WFS map layer.
2) Start uDig (various 'welcome' screens may be closed without a problem)
3) Add via layer >> Add map layers in order to be able to view these
4) Then select Web feature server
5) Fill in the URL of the geo server which is offering the layer (layers) (WMS or WFS)
You will now see the dataset appearing. If the loaded file is a WFS layer you can invoke all kinds of other functions, for example:
6) Modify the style of the layer (put the cursor on the layer and then press
)
7) In the table view below, you can see data that relate to the presented geometric objects (select the table for identification, or press
)
