2. Installing Geoserver (NL war file)
You are now going to offer a service via the geoserver, that you will first install locally. As tomcat has got to load what is now a large file, it is wise to first stop the server for a short time.
1) With the right mouse button, click on the tomcat icon in the bottom left corner. Select ‘stop service’.
2) Download the Geoserver WAR file: Geoserver 1.6.3
3) Unzip the contents of the ZIP-file and copy the file geoserver.war to the next path (if tomcat was installed in the default destination folder):
C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.5\webapps
4) Start apache server again via the tomcat icon in the system tray.
5) Open a web browser and type the following: http://localhost:8080/geoserver
When the geoserver is installed and you have started successfully, follow the screen as is shown here. You will need this page again in step 5, so you may choose to keep it open.
