5. Transferring shapefile to Geoserver WMS/WFS
We have shown you how shapefiles, which have been saved on several computers, can be unlocked. Of course, you would like to know how easy it is to be able to publish your own dataset (as offered, for example, in geoserver). In this step you can use your own dataset. Depending on the format of the dataset (grid or vector) you can now make a WMS or WFS map layer available.
1) In the following directory:
C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.5\webapps\geoserver\data
Create the folder NL. Copy your datasets into this directory, in this case in shapefile format. Note: copy all associated files to the shapefile. For example, the files Overijssel.dbf, Overijssel.prj, Overijssel.sbn, Overijssel.sbx and Overijssel.shx must all be copied to the shapefile Overijssel.shp.
2) Go back to the browser which has access to the geo server. Follow the actions illustrated in the example screens below:
adding WMS- map layer
Note: now select Apply and then Save:
Adding WFS maplayer - re-use namespace nl
